The Lost Finale

As it has always been with Lost, big questions were answered but as a cost, new ones arose.

We finally met Jacob, the mysterious lord of the Island, and we discovered that he somehow weaved his way throughout the lives of our beloved Oceanic castaways, without aging a day. But, we were also introduced to a rival of Jacob’s (currently nameless) who vowed at the beginning of the episode that he would find a “loophole” that would allow him to kill Jacob. We later learn that the enemy found such a loophole; appearing to be the “resurrected” John Locke, Leader of the Others. (Locke’s actual body was discovered to still be, well, a corpse.)

Pretending to be Locke, Jacob’s enemy led Ben Linus, Richard Alpert, and the rest of the Others to the giant Four-Toed statue (Which we finally got to see in its entirety after three seasons.Yay!) where Jacob was dwelling inside. After some seriously well thought-out convincing- didn’t it frustrate Ben that after years of service, the poor guy never even got so much as a thank you from Jacob?- Not-Locke got Ben to turn on his King and stab Jacob not once, but twice. Just to be a jerk, Jacob’s enemy kicked the poor guy into a pit of fire. Despite all of this, I still can’t help but shake the feeling that Jacob is alive. Rasputin anyone?

Back in 1977, Jack and Sayid continued their trek to detonate the Jughead hydrogen bomb, theoretically erasing history and placing the castaways back where they belong; on a un-crashing airplane. But of course, the plan went to hell; Sawyer, Kate and Juliet tried their darndest to talk (Or in Sawyer’s case, beat) it out of him, but they all eventually sided with the Doc and helped him on his semi-suicidal run. But they were met at the site of the bombing-the soon to be Swan Station- by an angry group of Dharma folk, resulting in the detonating of the bomb and the death(?) of Juliet. The screen fades to white (rather than the customary black) and millions of viewers screamed in agony.

So what can we expect in 2010? Did Jack’s plan work? Or in detonating the bomb, did the Losties actually seal their fate rather than free it? Guess we’ll find out in January.

I enjoyed the first season of lost. But as the series went on it kind of seemed as if the writers were making it all up as they went along. Like when your sister makes up a card game, and constanlty changes the rules in the middle of the game.
