This Means War

Shackelford started this. Sitting in Newspaper near the office, I did my best to pay attention. Shack had come down to hang out for a bit with our class, leaving hers with student teacher Brandon Spurgin. As we begin to brainstorm story ideas, Shack pipes up saying something along the lines of,

“You should do a story on Single’s Awareness Day, it’s coming up.”

She then proceeds to talk about how it is on Valentine’s and basically is for people who make fun of Valentine’s being a stupid holiday and that it doesn’t matter, to which a student replies,

“But you have a husband Shack.”

She retorts with,“I didn’t mean me, I meant people like Will Ritchie.”

Pause.

Laughter.

My face goes slightly red. But I don’t want to actually seem upset, so I play along as if I was really mad and just walk out of the classroom. I hear a few more loud group laughs on my way to and from the water fountain back to class and walk back in and sit down. I believed the worst was over.

Legacy Legends night arrived and as Sean Borth and Megan McLemore interrupt the show to waste time while entrants prepare, Sean takes a photo of the crowd.

“Alright, now funny face pictures.”

Megan chimes in after looking at me, “Although some of you already have funny faces, like Will Ritchie.”

Wait, what? I’m called out again for no reason? I sink into my chair a bit but not after yelling over the din caused by the joke,

“Why does this keep happening to me?”

I feel like there is some secret society of people dedicated to embarrass me in public. So now I’m calling you out. Show your colors, because Shack, I’m coming for you.

Will, it’s ok. At least you’re not short. If it makes you feel better, I’m 5’0 and I’m done growing. 🙂
