Prom seems boring and stereotypical. I will not throw out hundreds of dollars for one night. I will not perceive this as the most important night of my high school career. I will not ask anyone to prom, unless I win that award.
I promised myself I could validate all my negative ideas about prom, and I would stick by them if I did not win a Gold Crown award. If you read Therideronline.com with a religious fervor or follow us on twitter, I’m assuming you know by now that we did this award, which meant I had to hold up my end of the deal.
I personally never saw a point in prom. Girls spend an exorbitant amount of money on a dress, guys are forced to rent a tux to prom and buy the tickets. The group splits money with other couples to rent a limo. The price adds up to more than you probably spent in your high school career.
So to avoid the financial ruin, I made a deal with my date. I wouldn’t have to rent a tux, but I do need to pay for my tickets and split the cost of the corsage and boutineer, which seems fairly fair to me. I would be more likely to re-use a suit then a rented tux service, so in the long run the money I am spending now will save me some in the long run.
So with a little over one week to go I’m scrounging up money to pay for my prom ticket, new suit wear, after-prom and a boutineer. It’s too late to back out now, so I brave the world of popular kids, awkward dancing, and people who are probably better then me in every aspect. Yay.
