A Blog: My Week of No School

Every hour Sunday night I was awaken by a not so pleasing alarm. A slobbery lick to the face. Of course, the dog needed outside. I stumbled out of bed rubbing my eyes tripping over everything in my path just to keep the dog from going potty in the house.

Thanks mom. This was all her fault. My sleep suffered for her vacation. She had won a cruise from a drawing at work. My brother and I live at our grandparents’ house and we got stuck with the two dogs. My Chihuahua Nicki and my brother Chad’s Pomeranian Missy. And of course Nicki just had to sleep with me or else he’d whine. I wouldn’t have minded as much if his bladder was stronger.

Monday when I woke up for school I was exhausted and had a headache that felt like my heart was beating rapidly in my head. Luckily it was a B day which meant I had late arrival. So I got ready and then went back to sleep until 8:15. When it was time for me to leave both dogs whined as I walked out the front door. I told them I was sorry and would be back later. All day I couldn’t concentrate on anything. I just wanted to go back to sleep so bad. 2:30 took forever to arrive. But when it finally did, a huge smile of relief filled my face. As soon as I walked in the door, both dogs were barking and jumping up my legs. I just couldn’t win. My boyfriend, Jordan, came over and helped me give the dogs flea baths. What a hassle that was. When bed time rolled around I was fed up with dogs. I made Nicki sleep with Chad. It was his turn to suffer the nasty alarm of Nicki’s slobbery tongue.

I woke up Tuesday morning to what sounded like a hail storm. It was sleeting! I was so excited and immediately checked my phone for therideronline text message: Mansfield ISD CLOSED. I definitely needed a day off. It was a miracle. Thank god for horrible weather I thought. I ran to my room and jumped back in bed, Nicki followed. Luckily I wasn’t awakend a million times.

During the day I just sat at home watching t.v. and snacking on random food items. It was a great day of relaxation. Then that afternoon I received a text message from my friend Courtney McFarland that said there was no school Wednesday either. I thought it was too good to be true so immediately I texted someone who would know for sure. Mr. Mallett. About five minutes later he sent an update saying MISD had closed schools on Wednesday February 2 due to inclement weather.

Come Wednesday it wasn’t as exciting. It was nice not going to school but I was bored. The roads were icy, so I couldn’t drive anywhere. And even if I was allowed, I would be too scared of wrecking since I’m not that great of a driver on dry roads. Most of the day I did some homework, ate, took care of puppies, and played on the computer. That afternoon I was sitting at home and received another update: therideronline:Mansfield ISD will be closed tomorrow, Thursday, February 3 due to inclement weather and the continued severe road conditions. Once again, I’m excited for no school, but don’t look forward to the torture of boredom and annoying puppies.

As this bad weather and no school pattern goes on I can’t help but wonder about make up days. We’ve missed three days so far and I don’t look forward to making them up. If they are added to the end of the year won’t it make graduation for us seniors later? If so, then I’m really not liking this weather anymore. Hopefully we’ll just lose a couple of holidays. All the important ones like Thanksgiving and Christmas are over with anyways.
