Nine Things I Want to do Before I am Thirty

Excluding celebrities, when people turn 30, they are usually settled down with children. Similar to turning 21, turning 30 opens a completely new phase in life. There are still several things to look forward to, but there are a variety of responsibilities that come as a result of having a family. When people are twenty-two and want to spontaneously drive to California from Texas, they can without having to think about who will babysit. I would be thankful to be alive at 30, but I want to be able to look back at my youth and have no regrets. The worst things a person who is 30 can say is “I should have” or “I wish”. In order to make sure I won’t be in that position when I am 30, I made a list of things I want to do before I’m 30. The following places, activities, etc are on the list.

1. Visit Argentina and Ireland:
Argentina is like an all in one package. With mountains, some of the world’s prettiest beaches, good affordable shopping, beautiful waterfalls and tropical rain forests, the worst part about going would be leaving. In fact, if everything goes as planned, I will study abroad in Argentina next summer. As for Ireland, maybe it’s the aesthetic green landscape, the friendly laid back manner of the people, or the fact that Leap Year is one of my favorite movies, but there is something about Ireland that drives me to visit before I’m 30.

2. Ride Mr. Freeze:
The first roller coaster I ever rode was Batman, and it took standing in line three times for me to finally get on it. From what my friends say, Mr. Freeze is far better than batman, so I know that I would love riding it since Batman is my favorite ride at Six Flags. The problem is that I hate it when my stomach drops and I fear that it will on Mr. Freeze. I want to be able to get over this fear before I’m 30.

3. Own a Lamborghini:
Since I was old enough to know what sports cars are, I have been addicted to them. The sports car that stands out the most is the Lamborghini. I’ve never been inside one, but I love the exterior and the way the doors open. I want to buy a fully loaded Lamborghini with black exterior and interior.

4. Live in NYC, even if it is just for a year:
Ever since I visited NYC during the seventh grade, I have dreamed of living in the cultural melting pot of the world. I want to be one of the lucky few that can say “I’m a New Yorker”. Suburbs like Mansfield, TX are great for raising children; however, while I’m young I want to explore a major city like NYC so that I can fulfill my youth and grow as a person simultaneously.

5. Drive across the USA:
It seems like driving across the U.S. is one of the things people say they will do, but never do. I want to be one of the few that actually does. Driving across the USA would stimulate good bonding time with friends and create a humbling experience. Listening to different teenagers travel ambitions, everyone wants to go to places like Europe, but they forget about the features the country we call home bears. It’s mind-blowing how people in different states have completely different lifestyles.

6. Attend the Super Bowl:
Football is like the nucleus of the United States; it unites people from across the country. The one game of the year that exemplifies this cohesive force is the Super Bowl. People may not know why Americans celebrate the Fourth of July, but they do know that the Super Bowl occurs sometime during February every year, and they can probably still say who won the previous year if they didn’t even watch it.

7. See Lady Gaga perform in Madison Square Garden:
Similar to football, music is an integral part of American history. People probably know who Elvis Presley is before they know who the father of our constitution is. Love her or hate her, Lady Gaga is going to be one of the major identifiers of the decade. When I am looking back at my twenties, I want to be able to say I saw Lady Gaga perform in the Mecca of the music industry: Madison Square Garden. Although Lady Gaga is not Michael Jackson, and I will never have the chance of being one of the fortunate people like Mrs. Kamphaus, who can say they saw the King of Pop live during his prime years, I would be honored to see her nonetheless.

8. Attend a Red Sox vs. Yankees Game:
I am definitely not a Yankee fan; however, I am a sports fan and I love watching a good rivalry game. In the history of sports, there is no rivalry greater than the Red Sox vs. Yankees. The Cowboys and Eagles don’t even compare. Seeing a rival of that intensity live would be one of the highlights of my youth. Nevertheless, there’s one problem: obtaining the highly sought after tickets.

9. Compete in a triathalon:
Although this is probably the hardest thing on my list, it is in turn the most beneficial. Nothing says a person is at the pentacle of their athletic ability like competing in a triathlon.
