Every year since District 13 of Panem was destroyed after going to war against the Capitol, an annual broadcast of the Hunger Games, a live, televised event where children ranging 11-18 years old are chosen as tributes to fight to the death in an arena, is watched by all of Panem to remind them that the capitol is the overall ruler and most powerful of all the districts. Primrose Everdeen, recently turned 11, was chosen to compete but was stopped when her older sister, Katniss Everdeen, volunteers to take her place.

The movie was released Friday, March 23rd at midnight and was based on the first book of The Hunger Games trilogy written by Suzanne Collins. The movie stuck to the book accurately except for a few minor details. The only issue about the movie was what the movie skipped. The movie was fast paced for 2 hours. Although skipping did not affect the storyline, it will make it difficult for viewers who didn’t read the book understand the actions taken or relationships developed in the movie. The relationships were not developed well making Peeta and Rue’s relationship with Katniss hold less emotional value as it did in the book.

The graphics were crisp, clear and the all the sets looked exactly how it was described in the book. They even added things to the movie that wasn’t in the book to help people who hadn’t read the book understand what was going on so they wouldn’t be completely lost.

The movie almost felt rushed. Every action made did not linger enough for the emotions to fully translate through the screen. Some of the most heart-wrenching moments in the book weren’t developed well enough in the movie. It’s understood that a watcher can only be interested for so long and 2 hours is really pushing it, but it could’ve been a possibility to separate the movies to allow emotions to sink through to the audience.

The conclusion was very dull compared to the rest of the movie. It seemed that the directors, along with the actors, felt since they were so close to their checkpoint to just rush through it. Although that is how the book ended, it wouldn’t have hurt to make the ending a little more exciting, even though fans really enjoyed how well the movie plot stuck to the book.
