There are many AP classes available to high school students, offering more opportunities to challenge themselves. While Legacy already offers some AP classes, several others that could spark student interest and expand academic options remain. These AP courses may both be beneficial and engaging for students’ future goals.
AP Comparative Government and Politics
This AP class would teach students how governments and politics work outside the United States. This course will dive into the government and politics in China, Iran, Mexico, Nigeria, Russia and the United Kingdom. Students learn how each government solves similar problems by gaining understanding of the comparative method through analyzing text-based sources and data and making evidence based arguments.
In AP Microeconomics, students will explore the reason behind the fluctuations of prices for online retailers, depending on the time of day. Students will learn the principles of economics that govern the people and businesses. Students will also dive into terms such as supply and demand, elasticity and market structures to understand how economic decisions impact our world.
AP Business and Personal Finance
This AP course allows students to step into and explore the business world. They will learn marketing, accounting, entrepreneurship and management through real life case studies and projects. Through business ideas, students will gain a deeper knowledge of personal finance skills along with investment, budgeting and more.
AP Spanish Language and Culture
Students will have the opportunity to learn the cultural and language aspects of the second most spoken language in the world. Students will understand Spanish when they hear it or see it, holding conversations and writing stories, letters and essays in Spanish. This class appeals to students who have completed three to four years of high school Spanish and students who want to learn about issues such as families, technology, health, identity, art, global challenges and much more.
AP French Language and Culture
Did you know that French is the only language, besides English, that’s taught in every country in the world? In this AP course, students will learn and understand the many ways that French countries and speakers influence the world in areas such as international relations, aeronautics, medical research and sustainability.
In this AP class, students gain a deeper understanding of the Latin language form which all modern Romance languages came from such as French, Spanish and Italian. Students will learn Latin reading comprehension, styles of Latin poetry, prose and more. AP Latin is for students who have have an interest in college level literary analysis, Roman history and the Roman language.
This AP Art History course offers cultures from all over the world from prehistoric to contemporary times. Students explore different cultural and social beliefs along with the economic, political, technological and scientific advancements that have led to the creation of many types of art that we see in our society today.
AP Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism
Through this course, students will explore concepts of electrostatics, conductors, capacitors and dielectrics, electric circuits, magnetic fields and electromagnetism. Students participate in hands-on lab work and class studies using calculus to solve problems. If you’re a high-achieving and calculus proficient student planning on majoring in engineering or physical science, this class should be for you.
AP Computer Science A, which is a one semester class allows students to work with, use, build and explore the technologies of tomorrow to answer some of the biggest questions in society. Students learn how to design and construct computer programs that develop algorithms, problem solving and data structures.
Students will learn how to protect and secure data, devices and networks from real life cyber threats. Students will tackle hands-on challenges and learn how to solve these problems while building skills that lead to college opportunities and in-demand careers.
