The fashion trends for spring of 2013 already graced the runways at all of the fashion shows and left a pattern of upcoming styles in their wake; prints, big sunglasses, and comfortable, loose clothing. The boat-neck dresses and short crop-tops have a special place in every girl’s closet and will make a big impression on the beach or wherever she travels for spring break this year. I interviewed some fashion-savvy students and got their opinions on these trends.

“I like sheer, flowy clothing and bright colors, [but] I’m not feeling the bold prints,” senior Elizabeth Shine said. “I would rock the boat-neck dresses.”

The trends set by the famous New York Fashion Week portray an interesting contradiction of both tailored, cropped looks and sheer, flowy dresses. Borrowing trends from the 80’s, they also showcased neon colors and oversized shades that have stayed in style lately. Junior Madison Yelle agrees with Shine’s opinion on the sheer, flowy styles, but decided against spending her money on a new pair of sunglasses.

“I like flowy things because they’re comfortable,” Yelle said. “I won’t buy new sunglasses because I spend my money on nail polish.”

Many students plan to follow the trends, while others would rather add their own flair to New York Fashion Week’s predictions. Incorporation of one’s own style can be achieved through accessorizing, mixing and matching styles, or wearing something similar but not identical to popular styles. Junior Alejandra Perez will add her own style to the upcoming spring trends by wearing them with accesories she already has a lot of.

“I’d wear everything that’s bright with my 27 scarves,” Perez said.

From a personal standpoint, I will have a more daring approach to fashion this spring. Unfortunately, my resolution will undoubtedly go on forgotten. I do think the new styles display a bold flair though. I’ve never favored neon colors, however the flowy styles definitely have some appeal to me. I could have guessed that big sunglasses would make the new top trend. Only time will tell if these fashions will stay strong when spring really starts.

Madison Fountain, Personalities Editor
Hey, this is Madison! I'm your personalities editor here on The Rider. It's my senior year, but I have been on staff since I was a young sophomore. I enjoy long, romantic walks to the fridge and doing backflips through the school hallway while singing showtunes loudly. Juuuust kidding... sort of. Anyway, I'm also very involved in theatre (I wonder if they'll let me keep this spelling on the website). I'm kind of loud and I get distracted easily sometimes, but I'm ready to work hard this year as an editor and make The Rider the best it has ever been. [email protected]
