Things To Do Over Summer

Having fun for cheap in the summer
Things+To+Do+Over+Summer+

Finding something to do during summer may prove itself a challenge for students unaware of the local activities available. In an effort to try to make everyone’s summer a better experience, this list has been compiled, listing 10 things to do while out of school to make the best of vacation.

Dinosaur Valley State Park
Dinosaur Valley State Park offers a variety of activities in the 1,524.72 acre US National Natural Landmark. The park only charges $7 per adult and free admission for children. Visitors are able to participate in camping, hiking, mountain biking, swimming, fishing, and horseback riding.

Hurricane Harbor
When it gets too hot to go outside and hang out, Hurricane Harbor gives families and friends a way to be outside, but not suffer in the steaming heat. Pay $24.99 for general admission and spend the day splashing around and staying cool without having to hide inside the house under a fan.

Six Flags
Make your way to Six Flags for an exciting way to spend a day this summer. The cost of general admission for a one day trip comes out to $59.99 without parking prices. Although the cost may be a little high, it’s worth it. The park is open from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. during the week and open until 10 p.m. on weekend nights which spares plenty of time to test out all the rides including the new Texas Skyscreamer.

LARPing
LARPing or Live Action Role Play is when participants physically act out their characters’ actions and adhere to certain personas with other participants. Certain rules apply based on who mediates the events. Participants may purchase or create their own attire specific to their character and era.

Fort Worth Zoo
Visit all kinds of different exotic animals at the Fort Worth Zoo for only $12 per person. Anyone can enjoy the rare sights to see at the zoo, ranging from large elephants to small colorful birds. Sightseeing is not the only thing to do – feed birds off of a stick that is covered in bird seed, eat at one of the numerous restaurants or browse through one of the theme shops located throughout the zoo for a memorable souvenir to take home.

Urban Air
The trampoline park located in the metroplex offers many different activities for all ages. Visitors can test their acrobatics in a variety of different trampoline-related activities including dodgeball night where participants can bounce and battle it out in a dodgeball arena. The park charges $12 for open jump times.

Medieval Times
Step back into the Renaissance without having to time travel by taking a little trip to Dallas to visit Medieval Times. To experience the past, you must pay your dues of $58.95 for adults and $35.95 for children 12 years and younger. Enjoy a feast fit for a king while you watch shows, knights riding horses and sword fighting.

The Fort Worth Water Gardens
The 4.3 acre urban park meant to provide a refuge from the concrete jungle in Downtown Fort Worth ensures a peaceful experience and a photo-worthy environment. Admission is free and all visitors are welcome to partake in the calming surroundings.

Fossil Rim
Drive through a wild animal rescue park and come face to face with real, live wild animals that will walk up to your car and take food out of your hand. Fossil Rim is located in Glen Rose, Texas about an hour away from Mansfield. The park also includes a restaurant, gift shop and petting zoo for kids and adults to enjoy. General admission costs $20.95 on weekdays and $23.95 on weekends.

Dallas World Aquarium.
For safe, animal loving fun, visit the Dallas World Aquarium. The aquarium and zoo offer access to many unique species of animals for a reasonable price of $20.95 for adults and $12.95 for children under 12 years of age.

Olivia Beaupre, Staff Writer
Hey I'm Olivia Beaupre. I'm currently a staff writer for the Rider Online newspaper. This year is my junior year and also my second year to be a part of newspaper. I'm super excited to see what this year holds and to get finished with my junior year. I'm highly allergic to peanuts, which is super annoying. I don't really do much outside of school except for work and hanging out with my friends. [email protected]
