The planet contains plenty of wonders and natural resources. However, these resources diminished as the result of waste disposed of by humans. To solve this problem, we celebrate Earth Day on April 22 every year. This day became devoted to cleaning and restoring our world. Below read ten ways to celebrate Earth Day.

Plant a tree

Through photosynthesis, trees release oxygen into the atmosphere. As companies cut trees down to use for construction, more carbon dioxide stays in the air.  Every tree cut down, our atmosphere becomes more hazardous than before. Planting trees support a healthy environment for the whole planet.

Clean up litter

Litter causes pollution which negatively impacts wildlife and pollutes water systems. When litter washes into storm drains it can pollute the ocean and other water sources including healthy drinking water. The bacteria on the garbage ruins drinking water and adds to the decreasing amount of our available supply.

Conserve water

Only 0.5% of Earth’s water is suitable to drink. However, someone could add prat\ctices to their routine for water conservation. This includes turning the water off while brushing your teeth or taking a shorter shower since the average showerhead uses two and a half gallons of water per minute.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Reusing items saves money and the environment. Instead of buying a new toy or appliance each time it breaks, repair it or resell it. When at the store, consumers should look for recycle symbols on products. This allows the customer to know if the product contains recycled materials or can become recycled.

Use less plastic

60% of recycled plastic still go to landfills. To avoid an increase of plastic in landfills, customers can use cloth bags for shopping or add more sustainable products to their homes. Plastic fills our planet’s surface and should have limits to save the health of our environment.

Switch to LED light bulbs

LED light bulbs use 48 fewer watts of electricity than the average fluorescent light bulb. The LED light bulbs produce very little heat and last longer than a normal incandescent lightbulb. With all of these perks, LED lights emit the same or more light overall. So LEDs benefit our natural resources and the home.

Solar power energy

Solar energy can decrease the cost of electricity by fifty percent each month. The use of electricity can cause greenhouse gases which result in global warming but solar energy reduces the number of greenhouse gases in the world.
