Known as Marvel’s first family, “Fantastic Four: First Steps,” released July 25, introduced a retro, futuristic world set in the 1960s, making $368.7 million in the box office. The movie starts with a little background of how these superheroes got their powers, and follows the lives of Mister Fantastic, Reed Richards, played by Pedro Pascal, Invisible Woman, Sue Storm, played by Vanessa Kirby, Human Torch, Johnny Storm, played by Joseph Quinn and The Thing, Ben Grimm, played by Ebon Moss- Bachrach as they face their most challenging mission yet.
This movie portrays strong family values and parenting. As Sue Storm and her husband, Reed Richards, have their baby, they’re faced with giving their child up to Galactus to save the world. When they refused to sacrifice their baby to save Earth, people became frustrated at the way they decided to put their family first over the lives of everyone on Earth-828. As she explains why she’s not sacrificing her baby, people begin to circle around her, supporting her, showing a strong community. They surrounded her and understood that she, herself, is a mother and puts her family first.
As far as Galactus, his right-hand man, the Silver Surfer, warns Earth-828 that Galactus will soon be coming. The audience later understands her background of how her world was marked for destruction by Galactus, and in order to save her world and her daughter, she joined Galactus as his official herald, the Silver Surfer. But when Johnny Storm reaches her with recordings from destroyed worlds, she realizes her wrongdoings. When Galactus invades Earth-828, she launches herself and Galactus into the unknown.
In the post-credits scene, the audience is given a look into the family’s future after Fantastic Four’s win against Galactus. This gives the audience information about how important Sue Storm and Reed Richards’ son is to the timeline, introducing Doctor Doom. The credit scene ends in a cliffhanger with Doctor Doom interacting with Sue Storm and Reed Richards’ son, which will continue in the movie Avengers: Doomsday.
Overall, this movie is full of action, emotion and important family bonds. With its unexpected turn of events and sequels, this movie is worth watching. I would give this movie a 10 out of 10 because of the way this movie was very well presented, with the acting and the storyline.
