High school remains a rough time for many. Balancing your home life, work life and social life can be some of the most physically and emotionally challenging tasks in your teenage years. You must maintain your health throughout these hardships so that you can successfully balance them without too much stress. If you’re looking for a few tips to handle your tasks, you came to the right place.
Getting enough sleep will help in different aspects of your day-to-day life. With more rest, you have more energy for your daily tasks including school work, extracurricular activities and you won’t be as cranky to your loyal friends. Getting enough sleep prevents you from falling asleep in class, preventing the snowball of school work that piles up at the worst times.
Eating a good, heart-healthy meal daily gives you that pep in your step that you need to go through the day. For example, eating a balanced breakfast of carbohydrates for energy, protein for your muscle and fruits for nutrients will fuel your body in a proper way. Eating foods that exist as extremely processed or unhealthy makes you feel sluggish and unmotivated to go through your day. People may say, “I don’t have time for breakfast,” but a quick yogurt cup and granola bar stay a great way to start your day, and healthier options remain available in school cafeterias.
Because of the Texas state phone ban, students cannot have phones at school. Since many students don’t have their phone during the daytime, they remain glued to it in the evenings and begin to procrastinate their school work. Fortunately, many apps that teens use including TikTok and Instagram have options where you can set a screen time for the day. After you have been on your phone for the amount that you set, the app locks and makes you exit. With this tool, students who usually procrastinate their school work can be more productive without the distraction of their phone preventing the piling up of school work that was due last class.
4: Exercise
Not only does exercising maintain physical health, it also gives you a sense of productivity when you stay active. Taking a few minutes a day to exercise helps you to get off the couch and learn how to take care of yourself. Even a simple walk with your dog (or whatever pet you may have) in the evening gives you a chance to take your mind off of the stressors in your life and gives you a peace of mind.
Lastly, go easy on yourself and practice self love. Whenever you mess up or do something wrong, know that it’s okay to mess up and make mistakes. Be forgiving of yourself and practice self love by taking short breaks from school work, treating yourself after a long week, or with something as simple as a sticky note on your bathroom mirror that has positive affirmations. All of these practices help you maintain your mental health in your busy life as a teenager.
