Senior Baseball Players Look Forward

Baseball seniors head to playoffs and prepare for the next level after graduation.
Baseball seniors head to playoffs and prepare for the next level after graduation.

With only one district game left against Lake Ridge on Friday, the Broncos are undefeated and clinched the district championship last Friday winning against Summit 5-2. Not only is Friday senior night, it is the last district game for some Broncos.

The Broncos have 10 seniors, but only have three going off to play college baseball so far. The three players going to play at junior colleges are Dane Rombach (Hill College), Branden Bohuslav (Crowder College), and Kale Ward (Frank Phillips College). Hill College is in fourth in their region 5 NTJCAC conference with a 14-10 record, Crowder College is first with a 19-3 record, and Frank Phillips is tied for fourth in the region 5 WJCAC conference with a 17-11 record.

“It’s a good feeling to be able to say that I am going to go to college to play baseball,” Bohuslav said.

The rest of the players know what they are doing for college and where they will be going. Third-baseman Chayce Steelman is going to Texas State to major in economics, first-baseman Robbie Stricklin will be attending Texas A&M to major in mechanical engineering, and right fielder Carson Campbell will be attending SMU to get his degree in business.

“I chose SMU because my dad and mom went there, and the campus fit my liking more than any of the other schools I visited,” Campbell said.

Left fielder Kyle Watkins will be attending UTA to major in computer science, pitcher Matthew Dickey will be attending Tarleton for one year then will be transferring to Texas A&M to get his degree in wildlife management, pitcher Blaine Bedison is going to Texas State to major in business, and pitcher Josh Sanders will be going to DBU to major in sports camp management.

“I decided to go to UTA because I like the campus and they have a good computer science program,” Watkins said.
