A meaningful silence fills the auditorium as Silver Elite Show Choir stands in a circle, holding hands on stage as they all think about what their show means to them. For sophomore Hannah Morris the show’s message is personal.
“It’s a very serious message and I have a personal connection to this show and it’s message,” Morris said “It means a lot to me that it helps someone who needs help.”
Legacy’s Silver Elite Show Choir will host the North Texas Show Choir Competition on Feb. 19 at the Mansfield ISD Center for the Performing Arts.
Show Choir has been working since August on their competition show which follows the story of two teens who get bullied at a new school. Friday will be the first time that the show choir will perform the arrangement in the state of Texas. Freshman Frankie Reisinger thinks that the competition will be a positive experience for the show choir.
“I feel that since it is our first time hosting the competition it will be a great learning experience for us,” Reisinger said. “It will bring us a little closer and we will start to act less like a bunch of individuals.”
This is the first year that Silver Elite will be hosting this competition and the choir plans to make it an annual event. Seven Texas show choirs will be competing on Friday including Voices of Central from Keller High School, a nationally award winning program. The first show choir to compete will perform at 4:00 p.m. There will be a $10 entry fee at the door, and will be open until 8:45 p.m. for anyone that wants to watch Silver Elite perform for the crowd while the judges tally up scores. Freshmen Nick Pena thinks that the competition will make the show choir work together.
“Show Choir means friendship to me,” Pena said. “Without it, the show wouldn’t have any compassion, and it would just be a bland thing to watch, but with friendship it adds the spark needed to perform.”
Silver Elite will travel to Duncan, Oklahoma on Feb. 17 to compete in the Duncan High School Show Choir Invitational where they received Grand Champion, Superior Ratings, and Best Vocals titles. The show choir will also be traveling to Keller, Texas and Eaton, Texas this season to compete. Sophomore Mckenzie Sartain feels good about the choir’s competition season.
“[Show Choir] means everything to me,” Sartain said “It’s my passion and it let’s me express myself creatively.”
