The Legacy faculty will host a tailgate party on Friday, Oct. 21 which is the week of Pink Fest in the front circle drive, right outside the front of the school. Legacy Principal Dr. Shelly Butler has wanted to host a tailgating party for the faculty and staff but has run into trouble finding the right time and game.
“Teachers are so busy with their own personal lives in addition to their teaching duties. I wanted to pick a date that worked well for most people,” Butler said.
The idea of tailgating originated from the Howdy Dinner which was a faculty and staff dinner held at the beginning of the school year to welcome them back – or to say “Howdy.” However, NHS provided teachers with a spaghetti dinner during the back to school meet that night. Because of the complications, the Howdy Dinner date moved to the game before Pink Fest.
“It’s a time for the faculty to enjoy both their work and their home families at the same time,” Dr. Butler said. “We are a family focused organization who completely understand our personal ‘at home’ family comes first. Legacy has such a rich tradition of taking care of their faculty and staff.”
There will be limitations on time, and Newsom prohibits tailgating. Therefore, all families must be back at Legacy prior to the 7:30 p.m. kick off.
“I think it’s awesome that Dr. Butler is bringing the staff together for a tailgate prior to the Lake Ridge game,” former Legacy football coach, Jimmie Green said. “Tailgating brings out the true spirit of the school and teachers have a lot of pride in their schools.”
