The girls’ basketball team advanced to the Area playoff game after defeating South Oak Cliff 68-34. The team will face John Tyler High School Thursday, Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. at Forney High School.
After making playoffs, the team dyed a section of their hair purple. Junior Grace Daniels said the purple represents what the team strived for for years and has finally accomplished. Advancing in playoffs gets Daniels “hyped up” for what’s to come since the girls’ basketball team has never gotten this far.
“To the team this means that our hard work has paid off,” Daniels said. “We have the team to go farther and do great things.”

Cheers shook the stands and players celebrated at the sound of the final buzzer of district play for the Legacy girls’ basketball team. For the second time in school history, the Broncos advance to playoffs and jump on the road to state.
Senior Kala Jones said the feeling was unreal. After working for four years to achieve something of this magnitude, she hopes to go far in the playoffs and not just play one game. After the win, the locker room was loud with screams, cheers and dancing.
“We are starting a new legacy here,” Jones said, “and a new tradition for years to come.”
Along with Jones, senior Bethany Ross hopes for a long run in the playoffs. Ross said that the team sacrifices their time to go the extra mile needed to win games, doing whatever possible to make plays and stay enthusiastic. With this being Ross’s senior year, making playoffs means that she has one final chance to step on the court and prove to everyone that they belong in the postseason.
“It feels like a dream come true,” Ross said. “To be in the program for four years and finally make it is an achievement.”
Head Coach Michelle Morris said that the girls deserve to be in playoffs this year. She wants the team to continue playing Legacy ball and tells them to leave their Legacy.
“They have worked so hard and it is nice to be around a group of girls who have the same goal in common.” Coach Morris said.
The Lady Broncos will play their Bi-District playoff game on Monday, Feb. 15 at Cedar Hill High School against South Oak Cliff at 7 p.m.
