Drumline Reflects on Past Year

Drumline Reflects on Past Year

Lined up in the stands, senior Jean-Michael Diaz and the rest of the members drumline prepared to play. The game was imminent and they were without their uniforms. The hot weather prevented them from wearing their uniforms but this didn’t affect Diaz.

“I enjoy drumline because of my friends,” Diaz said. “Its like a family. Everyone is really close.”

The drums lead into the beginning of the second football game of the season. Diaz thinks about what he needs to do as they start playing. He and his fellow drummers hold their intense focus even with the distracting heat and noises.

“This year the whole program grew and we took a step towards being a better drumline.”” senior drumline captain Neil Hoang said.

Playing at all of the football games, the drumline had a long season. Diaz feels appreciative for drumline and reflects very positively on it. He and the rest of the drumline members have enjoyed all of the moments that have been through together and they look forward to the opportunities it holds in the future.

“I enjoy the feeling you get at the end of the season,” sophomore James Bailey said. “It is a feeling of achievement.”

After the end of football season, Diaz continues to practice in percussion class. He feels fulfilled and believes drumline has left nothing to regret. The long, hard and hot season has left most of them feeling proud.

“Being my last year in drumline, I am happy with how it turned out,” Diaz said. “Hopefully we are also doing a snare ensemble for the percussion concert.”
