Walking through the vast brick halls of Legacy, Israel Stephens admires the unfamiliar layout of his new workplace. As the new Men’s Soccer coach and Social Studies teacher, Stephens adjusts to both a new sports team and school.
“I was first struck by the eagerness with which everybody seems to approach their tasks,” Coach Stephens said. “Administrators, teachers, coaches and students alike have an earnestness to succeed here that many places don’t have.”
Stephens previously worked for four years as head soccer coach for Alvarado High School. Among the new coaches, Trey Bates has taken the position as boy’s track instructor.
“Our players have been working very hard preparing for this season,” Coach Bates said. “We have a good group of kids that believe in one another and leaders that they can depend on.”
Bates instructs IPC and biology classes. He had a positive first impression when entering the school and feels confident of the incoming track season. Principal Des Stewart has an optimistic view of the latest sports faculty members.
“I feel that the new coaches are a great addition to our Bronco staff,” Stewart said. “They bring many different qualities to the table and should have no problem adjusting to their new surroundings.”
Among the recent coaches added are Nathan Lokata and Derek Lilly. Veteran faculty members have welcomed the incoming sports instructors with respect and esteem.
“I’ve been welcomed openly and it has made the transition a very positive experience,” Coach Stephens said. “[I am] stoked to be the newest member of Bronco Nation.”

I think it is very good that legacy has new coaches that can hopefully contribute to a successful season.
