With Christmas season comes ugly, tacky holiday-themed sweaters. Friday, December 19, will be ugly holiday sweater day. If you struggle to find ideas, take a look at these eight do-it-yourself ideas and try one out.

Christmas Tree
Use fabric glue to attach gold or silver tinsel to a green sweater. Make sure to include the tinsel on the sleeves, don’t leave them out. Add large craft pompoms of any color for your ornaments. Take it a step further by carrying a star in your hand. When you lift your arms above your hands, you will become the tree.

Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer
You can start with a brown sweater or attach brown fabric in shape of a head on any colored sweater. Glue or sew two large white circles near the top of the sweater but make sure not to attach them too close to the neckline. Glue two smaller black circles in the center of the white ones. Add red pom-poms below the eyes to make Rudolf’s nose. Lastly, use brown felt to add his antlers to the shoulders of the sweater.

Christmas Present
Anyone can make this easy-to-do sweater. You will need large, outdoor ribbon and fabric glue. Tie the ribbon into a bow and glue it onto the front of the sweater. You can also buy a bag of gift bows and cover the entire sweater with those.

Snowman
Form a cone shape using orange fabric and use pillow stuffing to fill the inside of the cone. Attach this to the center of a white sweater.  Cut two large and six medium sized circles out of black fabric. Glue the two larger circles below the neckline of the sweater and glue the smaller ones below the snowman’s nose. Make sure the smaller circles form a “u” shape for the smile.

Santa Claus
Cut a large red triangle and glue it in any position on the sweater. Add a large white pom-pom to the top of the triangle and attach white fabric to the bottom for the trim. Use a faux fur type of fabric and cut a large semi-oval to form Santa’s head shape and beard. Add two black circles on the fabric and place two googly eyes in the center. Attach the beard and face to the end of the hat on the sweater. Use leftover red fabric to make a mouth and glue it on the beard. Add tinsel around the Santa for added tackiness.

Fireplace
Attach a black rectangle to the center of a larger brown or white rectangle and glue it to the front of a red sweater. You may use a fabric marker to draw bricks on the larger rectangle. Add small, brown rectangles on the bottom of the black rectangle. Cut flame-shaped yellow, orange and red fabric and glue it onto the top of the brown logs. Glue miniature stockings above the fireplace.

Elf
Cut green fabric in shape of a body, it can be standing still or dancing. Don’t worry about adding a neck or head. Glue the elf’s body on the neckline of your sweater. Use red fabric to cut shoes and make stripes for the elf’s tights. Take the leftover red fabric and cut out mittens. Glue the mittens to the end of the elf’s sleeves. Form a trim for the bottom of the elf’s shirt and sleeves using white fabric. The last step is to glue black or red circles to the middle of the elf’s shirt for buttons.

Holiday Wreath
Create loops using large, green outdoor ribbon. The amount of loops needed will vary depending on the size of the wreath. Form a circle with the loops and glue it to the sweater. Glue any colored fabric circles to the ribbon or attach real ornaments to it using a stronger glue like e6000. Tie a bow using red ribbon and glue it to the bottom of the wreath.
