Senior Ridglea Hearne, shooting guard, thinks about her last season of playing basketball in high school and reminds herself that she needs to stay focused on her goal, to make playoffs. Basketball season is in full throttle now, and the coaches and players are confident with their team.
“Seniors, including myself are striving to make playoffs,” Hearne said, “and to leave a legacy behind for the underclassmen.”
With the new season just getting started, the team scored a 104-101 win against Kennedale. With the win under their belts, the players feel confident and look forward to the rest of the season. Senior Channa Parvin, point guard, expects a strong season because the team consists of the same experienced players from the previous year.
“We have done really well so far,” Parvin said. “We have shown what we can do at the Kennedale game, when we scored 100 points.”
With teams such as Lake Ridge, Ennis, Red Oak and Timberview on their schedule, it brings up the question of which team will become the biggest rival this season. Parvin knows every team will be hard competition, however, some teams propose more of a challenge than others.
“Timberview [is our rival], because they have gained a lot of talent,” Parvin said. “They also have several players that are playing college. They are all around a solid team.”
The student section encourages the players on the court. Senior Bethany Ross plays third guard for the team and says that the student section, especially ‘Coop Lion’ bring a lot of positivity to the games.
“It is always packed and they always support us no matter what, win or lose,” Ross said.
District games become a main part of the season. The team has to be prepared for the games both mentally and physically. With this being the last year for Hearne to play, she realizes how every game counts.
“It is very emotional for me because every game is my last of my high school career,” Hearne said. “I work even harder and have very good work ethic. I hold my teammates accountable for everything we do.”
