Moving can be stressful, so planning and preparing for your move ahead of time helps it go smoother and be less stressful.

Finding the Right Place
Big factors when moving include budget, cost of living, transportation, climate, proximity to friends, family, and your job/school, and more. Make sure you pick a space that you can see yourself comfortable in and that adheres to your needs and wants. If you’re choosing to live with a roommate, make sure to set boundaries early on. Divvy up your chores/belongings, discuss costs and bills early on, and make sure you get along well.

Get Rid of Stuff
Be mindful of whether an item serves a purpose in your life. If it doesn’t, either throw it away, donate it, or put it into storage. Do a closet purge. If clothes don’t fit or aren’t your style anymore, don’t bring it. For bigger items, like furniture, there are charities that will pick them up directly from you. Check out this list of charities that will take donations and do free donation pick ups.

Packing
Firstly, gather essential packing supplies like boxes, packing tape, markers, scissors, bubble wrap, and more. Here’s a list of places you can get a variety of boxes from at an affordable price. Try organizing boxes by similar items based on room or use, and do the same when labeling. When dealing with fragile items, wrap them in bubble wrap or packing paper and label the boxes. Put heavier items in the bottom of the box and lighter items at the top. Make an essentials box of things you use on a daily basis; that way, when you arrive at your new space you won’t be digging for your necessities.

Moving Services
Depending on the magnitude of your move, you might need a moving truck or movers. If so, schedule far in advance. Make sure everything is prepared when the movers come. Here’s a list of highly reviewed moving services in the Mansfield area. If you aren’t hiring services, grab a few friends or family members to help you with your move. Make sure you have a vehicle big enough to accommodate your belongings.

Living Essentials
When settling into your first space there’s some staple items you might not have considered purchasing.
