After making the playoffs during the 2024 season, the Bronco football team continues their momentum by starting off the year with a new turf field. Legacy’s campus already contains three grass practice fields and now with the upgraded turf, the players believe that preparing for games will become a much better experience.
“The new turf will get us ready for games and let us have better practices,” senior Alec Cano said.”It’s definitely softer than the old turf so when we land it won’t hurt as much and people can fly around on the field more.”
According to the players, this replacement could’ve come sooner with the previous turf field being installed in 2014, over ten years ago. The players started to feel the effects of the old turf.
“The old field felt like concrete,” Cano said.”This new field feels much better when we hit it, so the number of injuries could definitely decrease.”
Not only is the new turf safer for the players when it comes to turf burn, concussions and just general injuries, it also improves performance.
“Now when I run I feel more explosive,” junior Kain Hendrix said. ”Whenever I jump to catch a ball I feel more bouncy and it’s a nice feeling.”
With Legacy making the playoffs for the first time in five years last season, the players believe that this new turf field begins a new era for Legacy Football.
“Last year’s seniors paved the way for us by making the playoffs,” Kendrix said.”The new turf kind of starts a new era, an era where Legacy football is great again.”
Overall this new turf has been an incredible addition according to the players. With workouts almost every summer morning and early practices in August, the players are happy to come out to new turf.
“Things get hard especially when you have to wake up early for practice,” Cano said.”But when we get to play on fresh turf it makes it easier.”
