Rackets swinging and fans cheering, Legacy tennis enters a new season with the ultimate goal of winning district. The team looks to build off of their first couple of preseason matches and their first regular-season match.
“I think playing in different tournaments is going to help grow our team chemistry this year,” Senior Anay Bhakta said. “We are trying to develop a culture of winning this year.”
Since most of the team consists of upperclassmen, Bhakta said the team has a strong bond on and off the court.
“Our top varsity players are experienced,” Bhakta said. “So we want to develop the underclassmen into better players.”
Legacy recently wrapped a match with North Crowley on Aug. 19. In the match, the team completed a full sweep winning,19-0.
“I think our team chemistry this year with all of our players will set us up for a big year,” senior Caleb Butler said.
The team plays quick matches with each other to prepare for gameday. Butler said head coach Chad Redwine does a great job of preparing the players for their upcoming matches.
“I think playing with various teammates in various tournaments helped us prepare for this season,” Butler said.
Bhakta and Butler believe that although it’s tough to make a run deep into the playoffs, they can make a run for state this season.
“Our ultimate goal this season is to win district and hopefully make a run for state,” Bhakta said. “I think with the amount of experience on our team, this is the season we can hopefully do something special.”
