Pushing yourself past your limits, competing at the highest level and doing all of this to shave seconds off your time. The 2026 track season starts Feb. 12, but it will be different from recent years.
“With all the changes we’ve had, there have been adjustments we’ve had to make,” senior Morgan Eldridge said. “Adjusting to the new coaches means different and harder workouts, which impact the body differently.”
The Broncos received a new track for this upcoming season. With the old one being installed when the school opened in 2007, the athletes say you can really tell the difference.
“The new track definitely helps during practice,” junior Jackson Jones said. “But it doesn’t matter where we run, our mindset is the same no matter what.”
The majority of athletes returned this season, but there will be new leadership. Head Coach Detrion Taylor left before this season, opening up a new position for new head coach Kevin Benjamin.
“We were really sad to see him leave,” Jones said. “But this means we have a new opportunity to succeed with a new coach.”
Despite these changes, the Broncos have goals for this season. After making it to area as a team last season, they have high expectations to surpass that.
“This season will be successful if we make it to state as a team,” Jones said. “That’s really our only goal.”
The athletes have confidence in their abilities for this season. They believe they will have one of the best seasons in recent memory.
“I’m very excited to compete this season, Eldridge said. “I want to break my personal record in the 400.”
