March Madness, one of the most exciting tournaments in all of sports March 15. Participants filled out their brackets with the same question — who will win it all? Championship teams typically fit a certain criteria, such as: top 10 defensive efficiency, top 20 offensive efficiency and having experienced players. Many teams fit these standards, but I think these five teams have a legit shot at winning it all.
3. Illinois Fighting Illini: They have many strengths as a team. They have a very explosive offense (often top three in the country) with great three-point shooters like Jake Davis, who shoots close to 40% on the year. They also have a lot of athleticism, especially on their wings, such as 6’6” freshman Keaton Wagler. However, their inconsistency on the defensive end keeps them at the bottom of this list, but nonetheless, it wouldn’t surprise me if they make a deep run in the tournament
2. Purdue Boilermakers: They have the most efficient offense in the country with structured half-court sets that create high percentage shots. They have Trey Kaufman-Renn’s offense in the paint to thrive down low. Their defense isn’t as impressive as their offense, which historically doesn’t work out well in March. But, if their guards can play consistently well and they can step it up on defense, I can see them going to at least the final four and possibly a championship
- I expect the Michigan Wolverines to win the National Championship. They have everything a championship team needs. They have elite defensive efficiency with the most efficient defense in the country. They have a very balanced offense with not one person being the main scorer. They are great at rebounding, grabbing 30-40% of their missed shots and they have an experienced backcourt with junior Elliot Cadeau and senior sixth man Roddy Gayle Jr. They are ranked No. 1 and for a great reason, I believe the Michigan Wolverines will win the 2026 National Championship.
