Softball Advances

The Legacy Girls’ Varsity Softball team competed in game two against FW Southwest last night at home for the Bi-District title. The Lady Broncos finished on top with a 4-2 score after a tormenting first inning, giving up several runs to FW Southwest.

“The win last night was very exciting,” Coach Mayfield said. “We were all a little worried at the beginning because we gave up some runs, but our defense tightened when needed and we cam back solid.”

The team has now advanced to the Area finals against Saginaw this Friday. Coach Mayfield says the Lady Broncos and Saginaw both have pretty comparable teams, but like all of the teams they have played Saginaw does have more experience.

“To win Friday’s game, the girls just need to do the same thing we’ve been telling them to do all season,” Coach Mayfield said. “Remain confident and focused and to play well on both sides of the ball – offense and defense.”

The coaches aren’t the only members of the club to be excited for the upcoming game. Since the girls’ team mainly consists of freshman and sophomores, all of the girls are looking forward to their chance to perform in playoffs and get the experience so much sooner.

“It’s pretty exciting,” sophomore Taylor Thomas said. “I’ve never been to playoffs and it’s feeling pretty intense so I’m excited to see how we’ll compete – I think we’ll do pretty well.”

As for the Lady Broncos season in a whole, none of the members of the team, including the coaches, are one bit disappointed. The girls say they have all bonded well together as a team, and they play as one which only gives them a greater advantage over their competition who may not have that closeness and dependency.

“We’ve struggled, we’ve had our up’s and down’s but we’ve still fought hard at all times,” Coach Mayfield said. “We have had a great season so whatever success we have from here on out is icing on the cake.”
