2010 Yearbook On Sale Now

Ask over 100 students on the waiting list for this year’s yearbook (who didn’t get one) if they plan to order early – they’ll probably say “Yes!”.

Yearbook adviser Leland Mallett  encourages students and parents to order next year’s yearbook (the 2010 book) during the summer to save money and not have to worry about being left out.

“It was really hard to tell students and parents we didn’t have a book for them,” he said. “It’s just not financially sound for us to order extra books. We’re always on a very tight budget.”

Students can order the 2010 book online at www.legacyjournalism.org. On the website students can order with a credit card online or print a mail-in form. Students or parents call also call an 800 number.

“The accounting service, Smart-Pay, is a great company and relieves us of many money-handling issues,” Mr. Mallett said. “This year we only had a couple of problems and they were easily fixed.”

The biggest problem with online orders was students ordering the wrong Mansfield book.

“If you don’t catch it on the drop down menu, students or parents will order MHS’s book since they are first on the list,” Mr. Mallett said.

According to yearbook editors, the 2009 book was a hit. And next year’s book (the 2010 book) will be even better.

“Everyone loved the book this year because there was more coverage and more pages,” yearbook editor Caroline Hoce said. “We’ve added 48 more pages to next year’s book because of student growth at Legacy.”

Last year, the department sold 985 yearbooks. This year their goal is to sell 1,300 or more.

“If we sell 1,300 it will keep the cost down to us and result keep the cost down for the 2011 book,” Mallett said. “Again, it’s a budgeting game. We broke even on last year’s book – which cost over $60,000 to produce.”

Because the yearbook’s final deadline is in March, the yearbook staff spends April and May working on the next year’s book.

“We’ve already created a theme and have a cool cover design for next year’s yearbook,” Hoce said. “I keep thinking we can’t do a good as this year, but when we get to talking about next year’s book I realize how it will be even better.”
