Eleven wins. Two losses. A ranking at top 20 in the state.
Varsity tennis defeated Mansfield High School on Tuesday, making tennis the third sport to beat the Tigers this season.
Rivalries between players from either team made the match an important one for the varsity players. Girls’ captain, senior Ceci Canelos, pumped everyone up for the big game the night before.
“[Mansfield is] truly scared of us and they should be. So let’s get our game faces on for tomorrow’s game despite the weather,” she said.
The day of the match started out as a grey morning followed by a blue, clear sky in time for the match. The team was determined not to let the weather affect their game.
Boys’ doubles matches, however, were mixed up causing the players to be partnered with people they normally weren’t paired with. Girls’ doubles and all singles matches remained unchanged.
The match ended with a win, 13-6, overall. The coaches and players were pleased with the outcome, and look forward to upcoming matches, including district.
“Good job on the win today. Some of us had to play intense matches, others were a whooping, but, nonetheless, we won as a team and we all deserved it. Get ready for district,” she said.
