The yearly NHS Can Drive approaches again this fall season. NHS members and sponsors want to collect as many cans possible to donate to local Mansfield food banks.
“I’m hoping that classes will get really into it and compete, giving us the chance to have a lot to give to the food banks,” NHS sponsor Michelle Hurst said.
The drive starts on Oct 26 and teachers accept donations until Nov 5. Contributions are collected through students’ third period class and counted on a can per student basis. The winner will be announced at the pep rally on the 6th and receives a pizza party.

Legacy Rider staff and NHS members,
My name is Ron, and I have been volunteering for fourteen months at a small, but impactful ministry in Mansfield TX. The name of the ministry is Living Word Outreach (LWO). It is hidden near downtown Mansfield and has been doing God’s business of food distribution and benevolence for twenty five years. LWO serves families with needs, offering prayer, groceries, and household goods. LWO food distribution and clothing availability occurs on an as needed basis, but is also available to specific groups each month; first Thursday (Hispanic families), second Thursday (Working and Single Parent families) both groups meet from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and third Thursday (Seniors and Disabled families) from 9:30 a.m. to Noon. The fourth Thursday of each month is reserved for food distribution and outreach to an identified apartment complex in need.
With the seasons of Thanksgiving and Christmas rapidly upon us, LWO staff and volunteers would like to invite you to participate in helping meet the needs of others this holiday season. There are numerous ways to meet the needs and challenges of outreach giving;
One – Give what you can! Whether it be through a business, school, or church food drive, money for bulk food purchasing and toys, or volunteer your time and talents.
Two – Come visit Living Word Outreach on Tuesday, November 24th , from 9:30 a.m. to Noon, as groceries are provided to Seniors and Disabled individuals.
Three – Tell someone about LWO, so that others might receive hope, joy, prayer, and groceries this holiday season.
There are many opportunities for outreach giving at LWO. Your tax deductible cash donations will help us provide Thanksgiving meals for families and new toys for infants to age twelve for Christmas.
Another hidden treasure is The Vintage Place. The Vintage Place is an extension of Living Word Outreach featuring unique one of kind gifts, antique reproductions, and home décor. The Vintage Place is a great place to shop for all your holiday décor and household gifts. All Vintage Place proceeds directly support LWO and Orphans No More, which is a ministry outreach to Kenya, Africa. I have purchased and donated many items at The Vintage Place.
The Vintage Place welcomes donations of gently used items. A “drop off” shed is available at 107 N. First Street and all donations are tax deductible.

does it have to be cans or just nonperishable? If “counted on a can per student basis”, I’m thinking lots of Ramen noodles! Ha!
