Students qualify for midterm exam exemptions if they have an average of 80 or above in the class and one excused absence they wish to exempt. Students who attended AC or BIC do not receive exemptions.
“It’s very similar to last year’s policy, it has just been tweaked a little,” Assistant Principal Mr. Trammel said. “We have this exemption policy to encourage better attendance and reward the kids who come to school and do well.”
Mr. Trammel expects more exempt students this year rather than previous years because exemptions include only one excused absence in the particular class.
“More perfect attendance cookie rewards have been given, I think there will be more exempt students this year because there is better attendance,” Mr. Trammel said.
Excessive H1N1 and flu-related illnesses caused the administration to accept doctor’s notes to waive excuses absences when considering exemptions.
“I think there was a greater flu season and more kids got zapped with the battle towards viruses, so it’s in favor for the students that the exemption policy allows doctor excused absences,” Mr. Trammel said.
