Principal David Wright doesn’t enjoy attention, but last week his hard work was recognized by the TASSP (Texas Association of Secondary School Principals) with the Region XI
Secondary Principal Award.
“Mr. Wright represents Legacy and MISD well and we’re lucky to have him,” Superintendent, Dr. Morrison said.
The members of the TASSP are asked to nominate a fellow principal for each of the four awards given: high school principal, high school assistant principal, middle school principal and middle school assistant principal. Once the nominations were received, the candidates had to write a 1-2 page essay introducing themselves also providing details about their experiences and accomplishments. After reading the essays, the board selects the title-holder.
“I started not to do the essay,” Mr. Wright said, “but I was nominated and participated out of respect [to the person who nominated me].”
Assistant Principal Christine Englert, nominated Mr. Wright knowing in order to win Mr. Wright has to write a strong essay. Mr. Wright says he is proud to have won the award.
“I’m realistic to what it really means,” Mr. Wright said. “if it wasn’t for the fantastic staff and great kids, I wouldn’t have won the award.”
Student council gathered and collected donations from all of the teachers so a gift could be presented to Mr. Wright at the reception.
“He’s not one to like attention on himself,” Mrs. Schimming said, “but I suspect he’ll be very humbled by the show of support of his staff.”
Being a regional winner, Mr. Wright also qualifies to apply for the state principal award. This application requires more information, with several essays and increased documentation.
