Freshman Haylii Baylis sits on the side of the floor with a knee injury as the girls around her practice their dance routines. With roughly one month to prepare, the third annual Silver Spurs Holiday show takes place on December 1 from 6 to 9 p.m.
“I feel like students should come because it supports and motivates the dancers to do their best,” Baylis said.
Tickets for the event cost $15 for adults and $5 for children 10 years old and under. Food and drink as well as access to the show and silent auction are each included with the ticket price. Tickets must be bought prior to arrival at the show with money for the tickets due by Monday, November 14.
Freshman Silver Spur Stevie Burns encourages students and staff to attend the holiday event.
“It’s always good to have the support and involvement of the school. We always want it [their support and involvement],” Burns said.
All proceeds made go toward the Silver Spurs funds and will help pay for competition costumes and other things without using much of their budgeted money.
“From the experience, I’m really hoping the team gets money to help with funds affected by the budget cut,” Burns said. “Also, a lot of people have misconceptions of girls on the dance team, so by getting more people involved it will help change their views of the dancers.”
The show will feature only Christmas music, mostly classic remakes and be composed of both traditional/team and class dances.
“Who doesn’t want to eat food and watch people dance,” Baylis said. “There are new elements and higher level techniques. The dances look a lot cooler than the those performed at the pep rallies.”
