“Just Cure It” T-Shirt Sales Exceed Expectations

She tapped the end of her pen on the desk, contemplating different ideas for the design of the upcoming project. Finally, senior Jacy Hinkle, along with the Teen II class, decided upon using the Nike logo as their inspiration toward the design of the 2012 Pink Fest T-shirts.

“I had no idea it would be such a popular style,” Hinkle said. “Everybody liked it.”

Dena Schimming’s Teen II class was in charge of brainstorming ideas for this year’s pinkfest shirt. The students festered around doing a Nike theme, but couldn’t come up with an idea they all liked. The discussion, taken place within the first week of school, was pushed to a later time where Hinkle proposed her idea.

“I almost didn’t say it,” Hinkle said. “I wasn’t sure if anyone would like it.”

After tweaking and redesigning, the class came up with a style that appeals to both males and females. The Nike design did just that, although they did have to get permission from Nike to use their logo, which their t-shirt company got for them.

“In the end, it was a collaborative effort which everyone agreed on,” Mrs. Schimming said.

Girls’ volleyball coach, Jennifer Chandler, really enjoys the fabric chosen for the shirts, as well as the pink and grey color choice. Chandler claims that the fabric feels softer than shirt from the past.

“I love them. I like the design a lot,” Chandler said. “The Nike strength fits in well.”

Also, they intentionally left out the name Legacy High School so the shirt would appeal to others. The idea worked and the students have sold over a hundred shirts to people from other schools. Schimming has made three different orders already, with a total of 4,421 shirts. Many schools pre-ordered their shirts, except for Timberview and Mansfield. However, many students are buying their shirts from Legacy instead.

“It’s great because we’ll make money off the shirts this year,” Hinkle said. “That’s what we lacked in last year.”

The Pink Fest game this year takes place on Oct. 26th at Seguin High School, with Pink Fest the following day on Oct. 27th.

Dear fellow students who have ventured onto this dusty website known as therider, If you’re at all curious about who I am and what I do, which I know you’re probably not, continue on. This bio doesn’t happen to be my first go around, but it will sadly be my last. I am as surprised as the rest of you to be up here writing from the position of Assistant Editor, but here I am telling my story. I first came across journalism during my sophomore year, was moved up at semester to newspaper, and am continuing on this adventure until the end of my high school days. Yes, the time has been fun, but I must say it was a long and stressful road. Not only have I driven myself to be the best writer I can, but I’m also in many other activities. My time is consumed by swimming, cross country, track, gymnastics and art activities. Anything I do helps change how or why I do another, so it...ok, I’m just wrapping it up, this is all cliché terribleness and we’re done. It’s a wonderful life. [email protected]
