The Goal: Fill three school buses with toys for underprivileged youth across the nation through Toys for Tots.
The Challenge: Student Councils from all five Mansfield high schools will compete with each other to see who can collect the most toys.
The Reward: A city-wide party held at the Center for the Performing Arts Dec. 12.
Our Leader: Principal Des Stewart.
The final date for turning toys in to the Center, Dec. 12, will end in a celebration. Fox 4 News will attend and film the event. Student Council will collect unwrapped, packaged toys Dec. 3-7. Students can turn the toys into their fourth period teacher. As for the celebration, other school organizations may sign up to run a booth at the event or plan a performance. Various drumlines, cheer teams and mascots from all schools are scheduled to perform at the event.
“This means a lot to the people of MISD, as well as the community,” Mr. Stewart said. “Each high school gladly stepped up the plate and elected to participate in this worthwhile event.”
All five MISD high schools will compete to collect the most toys. The school with the most donations receives a free event at the Center with up to $1,000 in catering. Middle and elementary schools have separate competitions. The school board will announce all winners of the competitions at the board meeting in January.
“There is no doubt in my mind that the people of Bronco Nation will rise to the occasion and show the other high schools in MISD who’s number one,” Mr. Stewart said.
Mansfield ISD hosts this competition in participation with Toys for Tots, a program founded by the Marines in 1947 to collect toys for children in poverty who otherwise would not receive holiday gifts. The toys go to families in need in time for Christmas. Families in need of toys can make an online request.
“This is our chance to make a difference in the life of a child by ensuring that they get to enjoy Christmas,” Mr. Stewart said.
