[UPDATE 10-27-13]
Legacy marching band competed at Pennington Field on Saturday Oct. 26 in the Area UIL competition with the opportunity to qualify for state.
The band competed at 10:15 a.m. and scored tenth in prelims and advanced to finals.
Finals would grant them another chance to perform their show and place above other bands and advance to the state competition. Lightning struck eight minutes prior to their final performance, sending the students to wait out the storm in their busses. The storm never passed and finals were canceled.
Without finals, the bands were placed based on their scores from their preliminary rounds which placed Legacy tenth out of the 20 bands that participated.
Although Legacy did not advance to state, Lake Ridge’s preliminary scores were high enough for them to advance to the UIL state competition held in San Antonio.
“I believe that the judges were misled as to what our show was about, but I’m not sure about the judging panel,” sophomore Langston Walker said. “I’m proud of Lake Ridge.”
Several times before this competition, Legacy qualified for finals but couldn’t perform because of conditions cancelling the final round.

The band will perform their marching show twice more, once at the Legacy vs Summit football game, and for senior night against Lake Ridge.
“At first, after the competition, people were bummed out,” Walker said. “Soon after on Monday during band class, Mr. Fugget and our advisor Mr.Hopkins gave us a speech about how this is only the beginning and from here we have nothing to do but grow.”
Legacy Band competed at Pennington Field on Tuesday, Oct. 22 in a UIL marching band competition among 20 other schools, advancing to the area competition taking place this Saturday.
Judges rate the bands on a scale of one to three, with one as the highest score. In order to advance to the area competition, the band must score a one with each of the judges.
“We’ve already done really well at two other competitions this year,” Band Director Glenn Fugett said.
In the past band has always gotten ones in their performances. This year, the band performs a show titled Sakura. All of their songs follow a Japanese theme and the color guard wears make-up similar to Japanese Geishas.
“I think we have as a good a chance [of making it to State] now as we did four years ago when we went to finals,” Fugett said.
