Art teacher David Mason parted with seniors with the Mason Jar Senior Farewell Exhibit. Each featured artist only contributed five pieces each. The gallery portrays an array of mediums, including ceramics, paintings and drawings. For Mason, saying goodbye to the seniors proves difficult.
“It’s always bittersweet,” Mason said. “Most of them I’ve had as students.”
Senior Kendall Potts, one of the seniors featured in the exhibit, displayed five pieces of artwork, ranging from ceramics to paintings, and even graffiti. Potts contributed her favorite piece she created, a ceramic of a bear breaking out of a pot, to the exhibit. Potts will not study art at Baylor, but rather do it recreationally. Synonymous with softball, she hopes that through displaying her art, she will be recognized as an artist. Freshman Meagan Dake plays softball with Potts and has noticed her artistic ability.
“She’s very talented,” Dake said. “She’s pretty modest about it.”
Senior Brennan Morrell contributed his toilet ceramic piece to the exhibit that features a water function. His favorite moment in art was when his piece was entered in the senior exhibit. Morrell will attend college at Stephen F. Austin and plans to continue art while there. Morrell will miss certain things from the art program as he moves on to college.
“I’m going to miss the people and the teachers who inspired me to do art,” Morrell said.
As the seniors move on, Mason wishes them the best.
“I’m happy they’re moving on,” Mason said. “My hope is always that they don’t lose their talent.”
