Mansfield Legacy High School’s Teen Leadership II will hold a luncheon for veterans near the cafeteria in celebration of Veteran’s Day.
Students who have veteran friends or family are encouraged to bring him or her to this luncheon during the student’s lunch period. Teen Leadership II will provide an “All American: Red, White, and Blue” themed lunch for the student, their family, and the veteran.
Ms. Sarah Ausdenmoore, the Teen Leadership II teacher, announced that letters sent out with more information about the Veteran’s Day luncheon.
There will also be other events for Veteran’s Day. The week before Veteran’s day, announcements during 4th period will describe each different branch of the military. At 7:05 a.m. on November 11th, JROTC members will hold a flag ceremony in front of the school. Students, their families, and veterans should attend. Also, a “Wall of Veterans” near the Student Council store will show the brave veterans who work at Legacy.
Ms. Shelene Anderson, World History, AP Psychology teacher, and Army Veteran, remembers the people she worked with, and now embraces the importance of Veteran’s Day.
Ms. Anderson remembers hearing a gentlemen talking about how he felt embarrassed whenever people would come up to him and thank him for his duty, and she could relate to that feeling. But then the guy realized that the people weren’t just thanking him for his service, but instead for the people before him who have served and for the people that fought and didn’t make it back.
“After realizing that for myself, I’m not embarrassed anymore,” said Ms. Anderson.

Regardless of where you celebrate Veteran’s Day, keep in mind the risks these brave men and women have taken to keep the citizens and the country of The United States of America safe.
“I think it’s our duty as American citizens to honor those who have sacrificed so much to provide us with our freedom to live our lives and attend school,” Ausdenmoore said. “These men and women deserve a lot of recognition for their love and support of the students at Legacy High School”.
