Environmental club helps spread the word of saving the environment by helping others start for themselves. While also doing big community service projects that helps to clean up Mansfield, the club promotes the DOT or Do One Thing movement to promote awareness to students and the community alike.
Ms. Michelle Fagan hosts the Environmental club and helps the students plan for the next community service project that can benefit the environment and how people see it.
“Do One Thing encourages people to think about small changes they can make that will be beneficial to the environment,” Ms. Fagan said.
The DOT program helps people to participate in a pledge to help the environment and cool the climate. By pledging to do one thing daily, like unplugging cords after using them or recycling water bottles, a student can help raise awareness for the environment. The environmental club president, junior Nathalie Gaona, agrees with the members on the easiness of pledging.
“A lot of people think it is too much work to help the environment,” Gaona said. “The purpose of the DOT project is to motivate students to do something without having much do to.”
The Environmental club will be helping students to make the pledge during the lunch periods at the table in front of the cafeteria next week on February fourth and February sixth. Posters with a QR code will be available if students preferred to sign up online. If the students sign up at the table, they will get a sticker certifying that they have pledged to help the environment.
“It’s not about big, huge projects or changing your lifestyle,” Mrs. Fagan said. “It’s about them picking one small change they can make that will have a positive effect on the environment.”
