One by one, anime fans file into the room with smiles from ear to ear. They sign-in at a table in the front of English ll teacher, Ms. Bennett’s, room. At first, it was three or four people, but as time passed, it grew to double digits, surpassing 30 members.
As the members took their seats, they listened to theme songs from various anime from “Death Parade” to “My Hero Academia.” Every fan pointed out their favorite of the series and why they enjoyed them. When the club founders, seniors Brianna and Brittany Candia, walked in, they greeted everyone.
“We had such a great turnout last week,” Brittany said. “It makes us happy that you guys want to be here.”
Afterwards, students held an election for the club council. Each candidate stated why they want to be on the council and how they can contribute to the club.
“I want to be a part of the council because I helped my sister with the founding of this club,” Brianna said. “It would be an honor to be a part of the council as a senior.”
Once every candidate stated their case, the rest of the club took a vote by picking six out of the ten candidates. As the votes were tallied, the club played a Kahoot game ranging from well-known to unknown anime characters.
As the winner, sophomore Carley Russell jumped around proclaiming her title as winner.
“I am the greatest,” she said.
After her celebration, she decided to watch Princess Jellyfish, a story of a socially awkward girl who has a hard time talking to boys. Like most anime, it was filled with a plethora characters with varying designs and personalities. At first, many people were skeptical to Princess Jellyfish, but as the episode progressed, they started to enjoy the animation, story, and comedy.
“I, honestly, didn’t think that I would enjoy Princess Jellyfish as much as I did,” sophomore Noah Luikonen said after the showing.
Before everyone left, the new council members were announced for the new term: Brittany Candia, Brianna Candia, Carley Russell, Jocelyn Ramirez, Garrick Hague and Khalid Ahmed.
