Here’s the previous weeks of Rose Watch in case you’re new to the series.
Welcome again to another exciting week of ABC’s The Bachelor.
Instead of our usual fare of recapping the show, we have a special interview from Rachel Lindsay, third place bachelor contestant, AND NEXT SEASON’S BACHELORETTE. Due to an incredible opportunity, Grant (unfortunately not Katherine) was able to do two separate interviews with Rachel: one over email and one in-person.
See, Katherine was kinda there.
Here we go:
How has your life been after filming the show?
Work, family and friends keep me grounded, so surprisingly, [it’s] pretty normal. I just finished working on a trial, and no one there cares about me being on TV.
What does it mean to you to be the first African-American bachelorette?
To me, it is an honor to be able to represent myself as a black woman in front of America. I am excited to be a first and to do it in the best way possible; pretty much channel my inner Michelle Obama.
Since we’re a high school newspaper, what was high school like for you?
“I miss high school. I had so much fun hanging out with friends, playing sports and most importantly having no responsibilities.”
How did you first react when you found out you were going to be the bachelorette?
“I did not believe it. I thought they were trying to make me feel better because I was just dumped on national TV.”
If Nick ever got in legal trouble, would you represent him?
“Of course, but not for free.”
Did you guys hold on to the roses afterward or did you throw them away after the ceremony?
“I always tossed my roses #SorryNick”
Have you gotten advice from any other bachelorette/bachelors yet?
“Not yet, but I would love to.”
Have you tried to watch previous bachelors/bachelorettes to understand what did and didn’t work for them?
“No, I have not. I don’t want to compare myself to other bachelorettes or other seasons. I want to do this my way. As a lawyer, I am prone to over-analyze situations, and I do not want to be in my head on my season. I want to just be myself and stay true to me. In my opinion, that is how I will have a successful season that hopefully ends in finding love.”
Did Nick cry as much in real life as it seemed on TV?
“Yeah he cried a lot. He’s really sensitive. I was like ‘You need to save some of those tears for me when I leave.’ [laughs]”
Did you girls come up with your limo entrances or was it all the producers?
“It was a mix of both. A couple girls had the producers help them out, but I had my coworkers help me with my entrance. Alexis’ dolphin costume was done entirely by the producers.”
How was Corinne during the show?
“[Corinne] really does have a heart of gold. [laughs] She’s a lot smarter than people think. The reason she made it so far is because Nick saw the parts of Corinne that the audience didn’t see.”
What did you think of Raven?
“Raven was the escape. She was no drama and no hassle. When Nick needed an escape, he went to Raven.”
And for the ever-important final question:
Do you consider a hot dog to be a sandwich?
“I consider a hot dog delicious.”
She didn’t quite answer the hot dog question, but since she’s new to the whole Bachelorette game, we’ll let it slide.
The Rose Watch crew wants to congratulate Rachel on her journey to find a husband, as well as thank her for the opportunity to do this. Rose Watch was the second interview Rachel did after People Magazine #HumbleBrag.
Watch The Bachelor on ABC every Monday at 8/7c.
