The Broncos go up 1-0 on Waxahachie. The Broncos overwhelmed the Indians and won the game 9-0.
The team is currently to 12-3-1 overall and remains undefeated in district with a 10-0-1 record. With two games left in the regular season, the girls’ soccer team sits first place of the district. If they keep up their current success, they could easily clinch a top seed heading into the playoffs.
“To the team, it’s really important that we stay undefeated because we want to clinch district champs for the second year in a row,” Conner said. “Also, it makes our record look good.”
The girls’ soccer team is familiar with being in the playoffs. The team has made the playoffs four years in a row. This year would make five, and the coaches and players believe they can take this year’s team very deep into the postseason.
“Honestly, I think our team could go all the way to state, we’ve all put in so much work and so far our play in district shows our potential to become state champions,” Conner said. “We’ve been to the fourth round two years in a row, and have been knocked out of the fourth round two years in a row, but this year is our year to get past round four and take it to state.”
Every team has different strengths, Conner believes her team’s strength lies with the relationships that have been established. She also believes that good relationships with your teammates correspond to good performances.
“I think our team’s greatest strength is our bond. We are a really close team, probably the closest we’ve ever been,” Conner said. “Off the field, we are all friends, so when we step on the field, our relationships translate to how well work together.”
It’s Heaven’s senior year, so it will be her last season she’ll ever play soccer for Legacy. She says the relationships she’s made is what she will remember the most.
“My favorite part about playing for Legacy is the fact that I’m friends with most of the girls,” Conner said. “I’ve known a lot of them since I was little so playing with them is in a way like a childhood reunion.”
The Mansfield Legacy Broncos girls’ soccer team has an away game against Red Oak on Friday, March 10 at 7:30 p.m.
