MISD will host a college and career night on Oct. 26 at The Center from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A food court will open before the fair at 5 p.m. and close at 8:15 p.m. Ms. Julie Gross helped organize and promote this event.
“This is the best opportunity to talk to a college representative,” Ms. Gross said. “Ask them questions specifically about what you are looking for as a college freshman: size of the campus, degree program you are interested, is the community that the college is in something that you will be happy with, costs, deadlines. This is also a great opportunity to make contact with someone in case you have questions in the future.”
Students can talk to representatives from colleges, military representatives and technical schools. Seminars for ACT, SAT and financial aid will start at 6:15 p.m. and the second will start at 7:30 p.m.
“Speaking to a representative is so important,” Ms. Gross said. “If you have not ever looked on a college website, sometimes it is tricky to navigate through some of the information. Speaking to an actual representative from that college you are interested in is crucial. They will be able to help you with your questions and concerns. If they can’t help you, they will be able to get you the correct contact information.”

“The best question for this is does the college have your specific degree program,” Ms. Gross said. “Many students are interested in a college until they find out that it isn’t right for what they would like to study. Do a little research and find out what is the best school for your degree plan. Of course can you afford it.”
This website provides a checklist on what to do before, during and after the college fair.
“Attending the college fair will help you speak directly with someone at the colleges you are interested in and help you with this information,” Ms. Gross said.
