Focusing on nothing but the golf ball propped up on the tee, junior and golfer Malik Daaboul prepared for driving the ball on the fairway. Blocking any other distractions out of his mind, Daaboul swung his club back and smacked a drive down the middle of the fairway with one stroke. He made his way to his ball for his next stroke with growing confidence as he went along the 18-hole tournament.
“This season has been very productive so far and we are growing every day as a team,” Daaboul said.
Daaboul has been dealing with a back injury since the start of the season, and is coming out of his injury just in time to play in tournaments. The team has recently set a Legacy record at their Texarkana tournament, shooting 303 as a team.
“We have just finished our Horsebay tournament and our A&M tournament, district, regionals and state are coming up,” Daaboul said. “We are excited for district, then advancing to regionals, and doing the best we can to win state.”
The team’s chemistry has boosted this year from the start of the season. Team dinners, hanging out and practices all are reasons for the team’s close friendships, especially for junior Clay Waddell.
“So far we have come together as a team more and more in every tournament and we are just going to improve even more as we go on,” Waddell said. “Our friendship is what stands out, we act more as a family than probably any other team that is out in the field.”
The team has their sights set on nothing less than returning to the state tournament with the amount of work they have put in during the offseason and tournaments.
“We all expect to return to state this year for the third time in a row and I am excited for the future,” Waddell said.
