UIL announced their latest conference realignment for football on February 1. With the departure of Mansfield ISD schools Summit and Lake Ridge to 6A, Legacy will face a new set of challengers for the 2018-20 seasons. Conference 5A, Division 1, Region 2, District 6 features a mix of familiar foes like Highland Park, Timberview and Lancaster with newer faces like Dallas Adams, Samuell, Sunset and Wilson High Schools.

“Our biggest threat is two time defending champ, Highland Park,” Head Coach Chris Melson said. “I’m excited to be in district with Highland Park. It’s good to always have good competition to prepare you for the playoffs.”
The Broncos’ newest division for football features an eclectic group of teams, success-wise. Five of eight teams made the playoffs last season, including Legacy. Here’s how each team fared in the playoffs:
- Samuell – lost to Adams in round one 20-7
- Adams – lost to Lake Ridge 70-7 in round two
- Wilson – lost to Kimball in the first round (Legacy beat Kimball the following round 66-7)
- Legacy – lost to Aledo in round five 28-21
- Highland Park – won state championship for the second year in a row
“The district that we played in was very very tough,” said Defensive Line Coach Shayne Ferguson. “This district, there’s no Summit, no Lake Ridge and no Waxahachie, so it may be a little bit easier to make the playoffs. I’m looking forward to playing Jenks for the first game of the year.”

“We have a couple new tough teams in the district, but for the most part, they are the same as the other teams we played, if not worse,” said Junior Defensive Tackle Enoch Jackson jr. “Worried? Nah. [We] just gotta saddle up and play ball.”
