Legacy Welcomes New Teachers

This year, 32 new teachers joined the faculty at Legacy.  It marks an opportunity to get to know some of the fresh faces here at Legacy.

Mr. Scott Parlin, Geometry Teacher

Where Did You Come From?
“I came from South Grand Prairie where I was the head basketball coach, then I was at South Arlington Bowie for 10 years.”

Why Did You Come To Legacy?
“I came because it’s a great school and my whole family is here.”

What’s A Cool Fact About Yourself? 
“I love the beach.” 

 

Mr. James Thomas, U.S History Teacher 

Where Did You Come From?
“Fort Bend Elkins in Missouri City [Houston], Texas.” 

Why Did You Come To Legacy?
“I came to Legacy because, during my coaching interview, I got the feeling that Legacy was home. There are truly some amazing people here, and I wanted to be a part of it.” 

What’s A Cool Fact About Yourself? 
“Throughout my college football days, I was on a poster, cover of the phone book and the NCAA football video game.”

 

Mr. Gary Tuell, Astronomy Teacher 

Where Did You Come From?
“I was at Ranchview High School in Irving last year, and before that I was in Oklahoma.” 

Why Did You Come To Legacy?
“I came to Legacy because of the amazing reputation that MISD, and specifically Legacy, has, and I wanted to be a part of a place like that.”

What’s A Cool Fact About Yourself? 
“I guess a cool fact about me would be that I did [WWE style] professional wrestling for almost 20 years.”

 

Ms.  Alissa Alfaro, FO English I, II, III Teacher

Where Did You Come From?
“I am from Cedar Hill, Texas. This is my first year teaching, so I have no prior schools or school districts. Last year, I student-taught and was a long-term substitute teacher at Mansfield High School in their Partner P.E. program.” 

Why Did You Come To Legacy?
“I came to Legacy because it’s always had a special place in my heart. Being from Cedar Hill and a graduate of Cedar Hill High School, Red and Black have always been ‘my colors’ and my freshman year of high school I hit my first home run here at Legacy. Then, my junior year I was a Cedar Hill High stepper and we had to borrow Legacy’s uniforms because ours didn’t come in on time. Legacy seems to have always been a part of my life and it’s exciting to see all the pieces fit together.”

What’s A Cool Fact About Yourself? 
“I was STUCO President, Prom Queen, Top 10 percent of my class, four-year letter for varsity softball and French Club Vice President my senior year of high school.”

Where Did You Come From?
“I was at Granbury High School for seven years in total.”

Why Did You Come To Legacy?
“I heard good things about Legacy all around and I wanted to be a part of it.”

What’s A Cool Fact About Yourself? 
“A cool fact about me is that I’m a concert junkie. I even collect band T-shirts.”

 

Ms. Erika Esquivel, SPED/ISLE Teacher 

Where Did You Come From?
“I’ve been a stay at home mom/full-time student at TCC for a few years and decided to get back to work. I’ve lived in Mansfield my whole life, literally just 3 minutes away from Legacy.”  

Why Did You Come To Legacy?
I thought it would be cool to come back and work with the students at Legacy. I used to be a student at legacy high school. I graduated in 2014.

What’s A Cool Fact About Yourself? 
“My middle name is Asarett. It’s my grandma’s name spelled backward (Teresa) except they misspelled it. So it’s supposed to be Aseret.” 

 

Ms. Yolanda Jones, SPED/FALS B Teacher

Where Did You Come From?
“I worked at Lake Ridge in part of the FALS B program.” 

Why Did You Come To Legacy?
“I came to Legacy because the FALS B program had split into two schools, Lakeridge and now Legacy, so a group of teachers were moved over here.” 

What’s A Cool Fact About Yourself? 
“I love to be with my kids. I’m considered the ‘cool mom’.” 

 

Mr. Sean Johnson, ROTC Teacher 

Where Did You Come From?
“This is my first time teaching actually, beforehand I worked in the Texas Military Department.” 

Why Did You Come To Legacy?
“Legacy has a great program for JROTC that I admired and overall was very welcoming.” 

What’s A Cool Fact About Yourself? 
“I have a recording studio in my house where I make songs.” 

 

Ms. Julie Vasquez, Nurse 

Where Did You Come From?
“I was at TA Howard for four years.”  

Why Did You Come To Legacy?
“I came to Legacy because both of my boys come here, one is a sophomore and the other is a freshman.”

What’s A Cool Fact About Yourself? 
“I am a certified welder.” 

 

Ms. Tammy Lawhorn, Nurses Aid  

Where Did You Come From?
“I worked at Cross Timbers for eight years before moving to TA Howard last year for one year.”  

Why Did You Come To Legacy?
“My son is a current sophomore here, with having the same schedule as him really works out great for us. I have heard so many great things about Legacy. I’m really glad I got the opportunity to work here.”

What’s A Cool Fact About Yourself? 
“Not sure if it is cool, but my family and I camp a lot. We own a camper and a boat. Most of my summer was spent at the lake camping and boating. My son loves to kneeboard. That is one of my favorite things to do is watch him do tricks.”

“I worked at Arlington ASD Junior for two years, and then Tarrant County College for five years.”  

Why Did You Come To Legacy?
“Truthfully, I wanted to just get into Mansfield. I know how great of a district it is.”

What’s A Cool Fact About Yourself? 
“I am married to my high school sweetheart that I met at 14.” 

 

Ms. Diedre Cline, Content Mastery Teacher

Where Did You Come From?
“I was a long term sub last year for Ms. Jacobs while she was on maternity leave.” 

Why Did You Come To Legacy?
“I came here because I just love it here. I love the students, the teachers, the admin and the atmosphere.” 

What’s A Cool Fact About Yourself? 
“I love Wonder Woman.” 

 

Ms. Latricia Brown, Bookkeeper

Where Did You Come From?
“I spent two years at D.R. Horton as an Accounting Specialist in Land Funding.” 

Why Did You Come To Legacy?
Well, funny story: I had interviewed, but Dr. Butler had called and told me they went with someone else and ‘thanked’ me for coming and speaking with her, but a few days later while vacationing in Canada, she called me back and the rest is history. I have always wondered what it was like to work in a school district and especially one that my kids attended. The Legacy staff has been amazing to me and everybody has been so helpful in helping me in my role.” 

What’s A Cool Fact About Yourself? 
Over the summer I spent five days in Canada, which was amazing just learning a lot about the people and the food.”

I taught at Everman High School last year.”

Dr. Butler offered me a position teaching AVID and it was too good to pass up.”

What’s A Cool Fact About Yourself? 
Teaching is not my first career. I spent four years working in political communication in Washington D.C. before becoming a teacher.”
