Stadium lights illuminate the field as senior athletes wait to be honored on senior night. One by one, as names are called, each student steps forward with their parents. However, one student is escorted by Coach Cade Oliver since the student’s parents could not attend the game.
“It is obviously very emotional because we’ve gotten close to the seniors,” Coach Oliver said. “It was tough, but every senior night is going to be pretty tough.”
Coach Oliver coaches the freshman baseball team and defensive line in football. Having graduated from Summit High School, Oliver wanted to return to Mansfield ISD. Coach Detrion Taylor also returns to the district as the head boys track coach and cornerback coach.
“We had a lot of new coaches come to the school so the kids were adjusting to us as coaches and into new plays and schemes,” Coach Taylor said. “The season didn’t go as well as we hoped but we’re hopeful.”
Ms. Meredith Conlin coaches the varsity volleyball team. Coach Conlin became an assistant coach after her seventh year of teaching at Legacy as an English teacher.
“I enjoy teaching and everything, but I’ve been out of coaching for a while, probably eight years or so,” Conlin said. “I just kind of forgot how much I enjoyed it.”
