After being crowned Area Champions on April 11, the Legacy Boys’ 4×4 relay team will compete at the Regional Championship on April 19. The team, consisting of senior Jadyn Arriaga, senior, Da’shawn Lester and sophomores D’Andre Thomas and Quentrious Crawford, ran a 3:17.24 at area, and continue to prepare physically and mentally for Regionals.
“I know we have a target on us now because [we won] and it will only make the competition better,” Crawford said. “We have good chemistry I feel like the trust is there, we wont have a problem with that. My expectations are to place top two and go on to State.”
Coach Detrion Taylor serves as the head boys’ track coach and witnessed the team develop this season, both with each other and on the stopwatch. The regional championship will be held at Waco Midway Stadium.
“Initially, they were running for their personal times, but over the last month, they’ve been running for each other and success followed them ever since,” Coach Taylor said. “As the days have passed, we’ve gotten to know each other and appreciate what we all bring to the table. ‘Trust your teammates; trust your training’ is how we attack each competition. The expectation remains the same, ‘race to place’. We don’t focus on times, more so, on achieving what it takes to advance to the next level.”
