Loud pings echo through the diamond, dirt flies and fans scream, the Legacy baseball team advances in the playoffs, defeating Timber Creek 6-0 on Thursday, May 1.
“It’s pretty hype, everyone is locked in,” sophomore Jake Jenkins said. “Whenever we are all focused and going as one, I don’t think we can be beat.”
Jenkins pitched the entire game, at Argyle Middle School, without giving up a single hit.
“We played as a team, and we had really good chemistry,” Jenkins said. “Everyone’s fighting for each other, not just themselves.”
The team was eliminated in area a year ago by Rockwall-Health which motivated the team to succeed this year and set their goal of winning state.
“That was good, but we wanted more,” senior Cole Potestio said. “We knew this team was going to be special from the start.”
With the win, they are just one win away from knocking Timber Creek out of the playoffs and moving onto the next round.
“There were some tough practices that we probably didn’t love, but we knew we needed it to win,” senior Lincoln Schroeder said.
With the game on May 2, the Broncos look to sweep the first round.
“We are sticking to our usual routine and not changing anything up,” Jenkins said. “We just have to go out there every night and play good baseball.”
