Freshman Alison Johnson has been exploring art since she was in 6th grade, and now she and her mother, Elaine Johnson, have an abstract art exhibit on display in the Mansfield High School library. The reception for the exhibit “No fear. Know Freedom.” will be on April 11 from 2:30-5 p.m.

“Abstract art has given me a different view on everyday things. Looking at an everyday object I try and think of how I could paint it,” Johnson said. “Abstract art is all just thoughts, it’s random, you have to actually search for the meaning. I hope people see the meaning of my art.”

The exhibit features mainly abstract paintings done by Johnson and her mother, however there are also several small pieces done with ink and pencil.

“People might not look at the paintings in the same way, they draw their own ideas from it,” Johnson said. “They see what they want to see, which may or may not be what I intended, but its cool to see what other people think,”

“No Fear. Know Freedom.” will be on display in Mansfield High School’s library for the rest of the month of April and the first week of May.

“I hope that people will like it,” Johnson said. “Not a lot of people like abstract art. I just want people to see art from a new perspective, rather than the more traditional works of art.”
