The sweet taste of cotton candy dissolving in your mouth as you pet a baby goat born just days before. The State Fair of Texas, hosted just eight minutes outside of Dallas, stands as a tradition for Texas life. The fair lasts from Sept. 26-Oct. 19, but this year brings many new functions of the fair that you should know if you plan on going.
- Ram TRX/RHO Thrill Ride
The thrill ride offered at the State Fair remains one of the most exciting but nerve wrecking experiences on fair grounds. You strap into a big Ram truck with an experienced and trained driver, as they whip you and your friends around a rigid dirty track. During the ride, the truck goes airborne multiple times, making it the perfect attraction for anyone who loves a little thrill.
- Petting Zoo
The State Fair of Texas contains huge buildings filled with zoo animals like goats, pigs, horses and more. The experience remains so authentic because the baby animals shown to the public were born exactly where guests view them. You can pet these animals all you want and even feed them with food provided by an employee of the fair.
- Live Music
The Chevrolet Main Stage around the back of the fair hosts a new band or singer everyday. This gives artists an opportunity to get their name out but also a great opportunity to listen to music you don’t already know. This remains an experience most people may not undergo regularly, with no additional charge.
- Red River Rivalry
Texas vs. OU play each other every year at the Cotton Bowl on fair grounds. This rivalry game dates back to Oct. 10, 1900 where the teams first played against each other. While the tickets to the game don’t come with the ticket into the fair, watching this game remains a once-in-a-lifetime moment. The Red River Rivalry takes place on Oct. 11 at 2:30 p.m.
- Fair Food
The State Fair of Texas, famously known for the authenticity of the food, offers options you won’t find anywhere else. Every year employees of the fair host the Big Tex Choice Awards, where vendors offer the most unique, tasty foods or drinks. The awards divide into categories – sweet, savory, most creative and best sipper. The consumables at the fair make it the best fair in the world.
